Here’s a LINK to the article from the headline featured in this morning’s MedPage Today newsletter titled “America's Frontline Doctors Accused of Wrongful Death”.
Here’s the LINK to the original article which is cited and linked in the MedPage newsletter, titled “Hacked Records Corroborate Claims in Hydroxychloroquine Wrongful Death Suit”.
Nevada Chiropractor (DO; not MD) who the article describes as “a medical doctor and volunteer faculty member with the University of Nevada, Reno School of Medicine”, Dr. Bruce Bannister served as an expert plaintiff’s witness in the case and stated under oath that "to a reasonable degree of medical probability ... his ingestion of hydroxychloroquine caused Mr. Parker's death." In his written statement to the court, Dr. Bruce Bannister further declared that “Parker should not have been prescribed hydroxychloroquine without an examination to determine that it would be safe. If a physical exam wasn’t possible because it was a remote visit, Bannister noted, the doctor should have at least obtained an electrocardiogram and other labs to ensure there were no heart abnormalities. And if none of these resources were available, the doctor should have told the patient to seek care where they could.”
A preliminary google search shows no results for a Dr. Bruce Bannister DO in Nevada. I did find a Dr. Robert Bruce Bannister DO who appears to practice family medicine in Reno and is associated with Renown and St. Mary’s Health Systems. According to this Wikipedia article about Ely State Prison, there was a Dr. Robert Bannister who served as the Nevada State Department of Corrections Medical Director back in 2008-2009 (and perhaps even longer) and who was involved in a lawsuit against the state filed by the ACLU for the wrongful death of a prisoner while Bannister served in this position.
I don’t see him on the list of physicians associated with UNR. Maybe they don’t include volunteers in their faculty & staff directory?
So, is this the same guy? If so, why is he using a different name with the court than the name he uses in his professional practice?
